ABOUT AMY
Hi! My name is Amy and I am the jewelry artisan behind Iron Oxide, a line of celestial jewelry handmade in my studio here in Portland Oregon.
My focus is on timeless design, beautiful stones, quality materials + craftsmanship. Each piece of artisan made jewelry is imbued with attention and care and hand crafted one piece at a time.
Beyond my collection, I offer custom jewelry design services for bridal jewelry or to help my clients make something truly one of a kind for themselves! I especially love using heirloom stones from vintage or family jewelry and giving them new life in an updated design.
My jewelry design is influenced by outer space, 70s glam, magic and the occult, mythology, folktales, the concept of psychic armor, and just about anything glittery. When I am not making celestial jewelry, I love to watch weird movies, create costumes and other wearable art, tend to my jungle of houseplants and pamper my very old and very loud black cat, Anabel.
I strive to build a holistic brand of ethical jewelry throughout my entire process from sourcing to packaging. Creating sustainably made jewelry from diamond alternatives like moissanite or lab created stones is one of my biggest passions. I also work with Harmony Fairmined gold, which is certified and audited to meet the leading world standards for responsible practices. You can read more about the sustainable practices that make Iron Oxide 'ethical jewelry' here.
I started Iron Oxide in 2009 after I got my BFA in photography at the University of Oregon. I branched into jewelry and graduated from the American Jewelers' Academy in 2013. From 2015-2020, I co-owned a magical shop called Altar, where I sold my work among the work of many other incredibly talented Portland jewelry designers and artists.
Thanks so much for taking a look at my work! I'm really passionate about what I do and grateful to call this my job.
